Decision Paralysis
Decision Paralysis: How is it affecting your business?
I recently watched a video where an employee shared that she resigned after covering for a colleague for over six months, doing double the work without any additional compensation or promotion. During that time, her manager was stuck conducting endless interviews, unable to make a decision while chasing perfection. What he didn't' realize was that his indecision was hurting his team. Now, instead of finding one "perfect" candidate, he’ll need to find two or even three.
How is this impacting the business? How is it affecting team morale and productivity?
It's crucial for hiring managers to find the right fit, but the pursuit of perfection can lead to missing out on the valuable contributions that capable candidates can bring. Delaying decisions doesn’t just slow down the hiring process, it damages the team and the company as a whole.
Effective hiring is about balancing thorough evaluation with timely action. It’s about recognizing potential and being open to diverse work histories, not blaming candidates for gaps caused by poor company management or circumstances out of their control. These candidates should be seen as opportunities to strengthen your talent pool, not as risks to be avoided.
Every candidate brings unique strengths and perspectives. If you’ve been interviewing for six months without making a decision, it’s time to reevaluate your needs, your decision-making process, and consider promoting and compensating those who’ve been covering the role.
Let’s prioritize decisive action in hiring. Your team—and your bottom line—will thank you.
